One day I was walking with a friend in Portland, Oregon. I caught this tree out of the corner of my eye, with mysterious orange fruit hanging from its branches. I asked my friend what it was and she didn't know, nor did I. I have a very "green thumb gifted" Mom, so I got on my cell and called her to ask what the tree was. (I am one of those people that has to know the answer/solution, or it will drive me nuts) When she answered, I explained the tree and the apparent fruit. She quickly responded with, "It's a persimmon tree..." I had never heard of this, but leave it to a Mom to know everything =) The type of tree it comes from means "the fruit of the gods." It is often eaten dried, raw or cooked; used for baking and various other recipes. This is the only persimmon tree I saw while in Portland, Oregon. This random day lead to my friend later naming her kitten Persi =)
The photo here is of a persimmon tree in the Bay Area, I have seen a handful of them here, I guess they enjoy the California climate better than the Northwest.
