Just a few of the reasons I love Oregon:
-Friendly drivers and overall people
-No sales tax
-They pump your gas
-Fully embrace individualism
-Artsy and Eclectic
-Outdoor life (Multnomah Falls, coast, forest park, Crater Lake, Hood River, etc.)
-Support of local business, instead of chains (co-ops, farmer's markets, etc.)
-Home of NIKE!
-State flag pictures a beaver on its reverse side. It is the only state flag to carry two separate designs.
-Has more ghost towns than any other state.
-The Columbia River gorge is considered by many to be the best place in the world for windsurfing.
-The hazelnut is Oregon's official state nut. Oregon is the only state that has an official state nut. The hazelnut is also known as the filbert.
-The Oregon Trail is the longest of the overland routes used in the westward expansion of the United States.
-Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the United States. It was formed more than 6,500 years ago. Its crystal-blue waters are world renowned.
Portland, my favorite Oregon city!
-Home of the University of Portland, need I say more!
-Bridgetown! Every kind of bridge you can think of: suspension, bascule, truss, steel tied arch, etc...An architects dream!
-Last Thursday (an art street fair, where all are welcome to buy/sell original work)
-Local coffee shops!
-Best farmer's market
-Character of the city, there is a district for every walk of life: NW, Hawthorne, Pearl, St. Johns, Alberta, etc.
-High above the city of Portland the International Rose Test Garden features more than 500 varieties of roses cultivated continuously since 1917.
-Portland is #1 in the nation for public parks and access to the outdoors
-Portland is #1 in the nation for public transportation and pedestrian-friendliness
-Portland is #1 in the nation for environmental friendliness
-Portland is #2 in the nation for athletic/active people
-Portland is the #2 bike friendly city in the WORLD!
*I still haven't visited Crater Lake, I'll get there someday, but saw the 2005 on this quarter, which always brings back great memories =) National Championship year for Portland!*
